Game 2 of LSU baseball's series at Vanderbilt felt like a replay of Game 1, except in the sequel, LSU didn't make a comeback. LSU only managed three runs on four hits as it fell 11-3 to Vanderbilt on Saturday night. With the loss, LSU loses the series and the Tigers have to fight on Sunday to avoid a sweep by the Commodores.
Just like Casan Evans in game one, LSU's Game 2 starter Cooper Moore had his worst outing of the season. He gave up five runs on seven hits, four strikeouts, and two walks. Ethan Plog and Zion Theophilus came in after Moore, and they struggled as well. Maybe it has to do with having a turf mound instead of a dirt mound. Here are three takeaways from tonight's loss.

Pitching woes continue
Starting pitcher Cooper Moore 22 on the mound as SU Tigers Baseball take on Northeastern. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026.
The game two loss marks back-to-back games in which Tigers pitchers have allowed double-digit runs. The same thing happened when LSU lost to Northeastern. The starters have struggled a bit, but the bullpen has been even worse. Jay Johnson has a lot more questions than answers when it comes to the pitching rotation.
Trent Caraway is struggling
Trent Caraway 44, LSU Tigers Baseball take on Northeastern. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026.
In March, Trent Caraway is 2-for-23 (.087). A batting average below .100 means Trent is slumping badly right now. He has not recorded a hit in five games. At the start of the season, he was seeing the ball well and getting a lot of hits, but he started cooling off towards the end of February. Now he has gone ice-cold at the plate.

Seth Dardar is in the same boat as Caraway
Seth Dardar, Louisianas Ragin Cajuns Baseball beats the LSU Tigers 7-2 at M.L. Tigue Moore Field in Lafayette, LA. Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
Seth Dardar is in the same boat as Trent Caraway. In March, Dardar is 4-for-23 (.174). He only has two more hits than Caraway, but his average for the month is still below the Mendoza line (.200). Two of LSU's biggest transfer additions have been slumping recently, and you can tell by the box score.
